Hi, I’m Sue.
I have been a nurse for 46 years, initially training in physical health and working in acute healthcare settings. Much of this time was spent as a children’s nurse on acute hospital wards.
While working with physically unwell children, I began to realise that my skills extended beyond supporting physical recovery. I became increasingly interested in the whole child, particularly their emotional health and wellbeing.
For the past 24 years, I have worked in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, having left the physical health field to retrain.
I have extensive experience working with young people in crisis, as well as providing therapeutic support to those who find their world and relationships difficult to navigate.
I have worked with many young people who have experienced challenges in their relationship with food, and I also have experience supporting those who use self-harm as a coping mechanism. My work focuses on helping them understand the function of these behaviours and to explore alternative strategies when they feel ready.
My therapeutic style is eclectic, drawing on different approaches depending on what emerges within the therapeutic relationship.
I feel strongly that emotional healing happens within the relationship, although I can incorporate CBT and DBT principles where this is helpful.
My role is to support you in making sense of your experiences without judgement, offering connection so that you can begin to feel more in control and less overwhelmed.
In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors, especially early morning walks with my cheeky Labrador. I also enjoy running, circuit training, and, in quieter moments, knitting and reading.
