EUPD/BPD Assessment

A careful, compassionate assessment of emotion regulation, relationships and identity. Grounded in evidence, trauma‑informed practice and neuroaffirming values.

EUPD/BPD Assessment

At Serendipity Psychology Services Ltd, we recognise that complex presentations are often misunderstood. Our Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder / Borderline Personality Disorder (EUPD/BPD) Assessment looks at the whole picture: strengths, current difficulties, history (including trauma), neurodevelopmental profiles (autism/ADHD), sensory needs, and context across home, relationships, education and work. We avoid over‑pathologising and focus on a clear, practical formulation that supports recovery and compassion.

Every assessment is seen by at least two trained professionals and considered in our Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). We aim to complete within 8 weeks, depending on scheduling and third‑party information. Where helpful, we liaise with your GP and other services.

Who this is for

  • Young people (17+) and adults experiencing patterns such as intense emotions, rapid mood shifts, difficulties with relationships, self‑image concerns, or impulsive/risky coping.
  • People with a history of trauma or adversity where current difficulties feel complex or overlapping.
  • Referrers seeking a careful differential between EUPD/BPD and neurodevelopmental conditions (autism/ADHD), PTSD/CPTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, anxiety or depression.

What we consider (differential focus)

  • Emotion regulation (triggers, intensity, recovery time, skills in use)
  • Interpersonal patterns and attachment history
  • Sense of self/identity and values
  • Coping and risk (including self‑harm, suicidality; safety planning)
  • Neurodevelopmental profile (autism/ADHD), sensory needs, executive functioning
  • Trauma history (single‑incident and developmental/complex trauma)
  • Co‑occurring mental health and physical health factors

What’s included

FAQs

Does this give me a diagnosis of EUPD/BPD?
Where criteria are met, we provide a diagnostic opinion. We always discuss different formulations, including trauma‑focused and neurodevelopmental lenses, so you understand options.

Will the NHS accept this?
Our assessments are completed by qualified clinicians using evidence‑based, NICE‑aligned methods. Many NHS teams use our reports to inform care, but acceptance is at each service/ICB’s discretion. We can provide a GP covering letter and liaise with NHS services when helpful.

What if risk increases while we’re assessing?
We create a safety plan and signpost urgent/crisis routes. With consent, we can share key information with your GP/other services.

What if I’m not sure this is the right pathway?
Book our Screening Consultation (£300). After a 60‑minute appointment, we’ll write a letter recommending the most suitable route.
