Neurodiversity (ADHD & Autism) Assessments & Support

Warm, evidence‑based, and truly individualised care for children, young people, and adults.

Neurodiversity (ADHD & Autism) Assessments & Support

What is neurodiversity? Neurodiversity refers to the natural variation in how people think, learn, sense, move and communicate. It includes profiles such as autism and ADHD, and recognises that these differences come with strengths as well as support needs.

At Serendipity Psychology Services Ltd, we celebrate neurodiversity and provide high‑quality autism (ASD) and ADHD assessments (or a combined pathway when both are suspected), alongside tailored support to help you thrive. Our highly skilled and experienced team works collaboratively with you and the people around you (family, school, and wider professionals) to understand strengths and needs, reduce barriers, and plan practical support that helps you thrive.

Our neuroaffirming stance

We believe neurodivergence is a superpower as well as a difference. It comes with many strengths and skills—from creativity and deep focus to pattern recognition and problem‑solving—that are too often overlooked. Our assessments aim to see the full picture, not to over‑pathologise. This ethos guides how we work with schools and employers too: we help partners shift culture and practice so environments fit the person, not the other way round.

What we assess

  • Autism (ASD) – strengths‑based, needs‑led assessment that considers communication, sensory profile, routines, interests, and day‑to‑day functioning across home, school, and community settings.
  • ADHD – comprehensive assessment of attention, activity level, impulsivity, executive functioning, and how these show up in real life at different ages.
  • Learning & cognitive assessment – from identifying learning difficulties to providing a formal diagnosis of learning disability, with clear, practical recommendations for support and reasonable adjustments.
  • Sensory integration assessment – specialist Occupational Therapy assessment to understand sensory processing needs and how to support regulation and participation.

We also consider co‑occurring needs such as anxiety, differences in learning profile, sleep and sensory processing, and the impact of life experiences including developmental trauma.

We use an multidisciplinary approach and ensure that every diagnostic report is written by an expert psychologist and reviewed by another for quality and clarity.

What are autism and ADHD?

  • Autism is a neurodevelopmental difference in the way a person processes information, communicates, and experiences the social and sensory world. It exists across a spectrum of support needs. Many autistic people bring deep focus, integrity, creativity, pattern‑spotting, and specialist knowledge.
  • ADHD is a difference in attention regulation and executive functioning. It’s often interest‑based, with energy that can look like restlessness in some settings and hyperfocus, innovation, spontaneity, and problem‑solving in others.

Our role is to understand the person in their contexts and identify strengths, needs, and adjustments that reduce barriers and enable thriving.

Who we help

  • Children (6+) & young people
  • Adults
  • Families, schools and professionals seeking practical guidance

We work across the East Midlands and the Heart of England and offer in‑person and online appointments where appropriate.

Our approach

  • Individualised & evidence‑based care aligned with our values of compassionate, bespoke support.
  • Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) input, with shared risk management so no one is left unsupported.
  • Collaborative process with families/schools; we can draw all professionals together when needed.
  • Feedback meeting for everyone – after you receive your report, we always offer a meeting to help you understand findings and next steps.
  • Clear, accessible reports including practical strategies and signposting.

What makes us different

  1. Dual‑professional review guaranteed: every assessment is seen by at least two trained professionals.
  2. Needs‑led, gold‑standard measures: we use evidence‑based tools, selecting the most appropriate measures for each referral rather than forcing a quick, standardised process.
  3. True MDT consideration: all assessments come to our multidisciplinary team for discussion, so recommendations benefit from a range of perspectives, including Occupational Therapy insight and a full consideration of sensory needs.
  4. Accuracy you can trust: we always invite corrections if anything has been misheard, misunderstood, or misspelt.
  5. Built‑in feedback: everyone is offered a feedback meeting once the report is received.
  6. Pathway of support: we offer follow‑on options within our talented team so your journey doesn’t stop at assessment unless you want it to. We offer a range of packages of support based on what our previous clients have told us they need, along with bespoke options based on your individual need.

What to expect: the assessment journey

  1. Enquiry & matching – We gather initial information and match you with the most suitable clinician(s).
  2. Initial screening – Brief questionnaires to ensure we’re doing the right assessments with you.
  3. Information sharing – Questionnaires and history, and (with consent) liaison with school/college or other professionals.
  4. Assessment sessions – Direct clinical assessment using gold-standard tools and interviews, and where helpful, a school/college observation and cognitive / learning needs assessment (optional additions).
  5. Formulation – A psychological understanding of your presentation and what makes you, you. We don’t like generic labels unless they can also accommodate each individual’s uniqueness.
  6. Quality review – Your lead clinician writes a report; a second expert conducts an internal review for quality assurance and to gather a second opinion.
  7. Report & feedback – You receive a clear, practical report with recommendations. A feedback meeting is offered to everyone to talk through recommendations and plan support.

Timeframes: We work hard to complete the assessment within 8 weeks wherever possible. There are many sources of information to bring together; we’ll keep the process efficient and keep you informed.

FAQs

Do you diagnose autism/ADHD?
Yes. Our assessments use recognised tools, an MDT process, and a quality review by a second expert.

How long does it take?
We aim to complete the process within 8 weeks, depending on availability of school/third‑party information and appointment scheduling.

Is online assessment possible?
Some elements can be conducted online; we’ll advise on what’s clinically appropriate for age and need.

Will the school or workplace be involved?
With consent, we seek information from the settings where difficulties or strengths are observed so recommendations are practical and relevant.

Do you offer ongoing therapy or coaching?
Yes. We provide individual therapy, parent/carer support (including EmPaTh), and practical coaching for executive function and anxiety.

Can I use the report for an EHCP or workplace adjustments?
Our reports include clear recommendations that can inform EHCP applications and workplace discussions.

Do you accept insurer‑funded clients?
We work with some insurers and case managers. Let us know your funding route and we’ll advise.

How do I access psychiatry if needed?
We can link you with a trusted private Consultant Psychiatrist. Alternatively, we can share your assessment report and provide a cover referral letter to a psychiatrist of your choice (via your GP or privately).

Will the NHS uphold a private assessment?
Our assessments are carried out by appropriately qualified clinicians using evidence‑based, NICE‑aligned methods which is what is required by the NHS when considering private assessment. Many schools, local authorities and the NHS teams we have worked with use our reports to inform the support and reasonable adjustments they offer. However, acceptance is at the discretion of each NHS service/ICB. We will provide a clear report, a GP covering letter if helpful, and can liaise with NHS services to support onward care.

Accessibility & locations
