Hi there! I’m Dr Lorna Smith, a Chartered Clinical and Forensic Psychologist. I have been working in mental health services for over 20 years across a range of settings, including the NHS, prisons, secure hospitals, private and charitable organisations, and in health and social care. Currently, alongside my role at Serendipity Psychology, I work in the NHS as a Principal Psychologist within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).
I work across the lifespan with individuals and families presenting with a wide range of difficulties. I have a particular interest in supporting children, young people, adults, and families who have experienced trauma. As a result of these experiences, individuals may struggle in relationships, feel unable to cope day to day, or find it hard to feel emotionally and psychologically safe. I have extensive experience working with complex mental health issues and difficulties commonly associated with past trauma, including depression, anxiety disorders, low self-esteem and confidence, eating disorders, self-harm and suicidal ideation, addiction, and relationship difficulties.
I also have a special interest in supporting adults experiencing burnout, whether related to work, studying, parenting, or caring responsibilities. I aim to help individuals restore a healthier work–life balance.
I am an HCPC-registered Practitioner Psychologist and am trained in a number of therapeutic approaches, including EMDR, DBT, Schema Therapy, and CBT (please see below for a full list of modalities I use). I believe therapy should be client-led, and I draw from a range of approaches to tailor therapy to each individual’s needs and support them in achieving their goals.
Outside of work, I enjoy being in nature with my two children and have a personal interest in mindfulness and spirituality. I’m passionate about helping individuals heal from difficult experiences and supporting them to thrive and flourish in life.
I offer therapy to clients living in Northamptonshire and Leicestershire, either face to face in clinic or online.
I understand that starting therapy can feel daunting, which is why I prioritise building a safe and secure therapeutic relationship. This allows you—either individually or with your loved ones—to explore and heal from difficult experiences in a supportive, caring, and non-judgemental space. I find it incredibly rewarding to help people feel empowered in building happy, healthy lives for themselves and their families, and I look forward to supporting you on that journey.
