Hi, I’m Lauren and I’ve worked in mental health since 2012. I work with children, young people and families up to the age of 18. I have a wealth of experience working with individuals presenting with diverse mental health difficulties, including anxiety, low mood, OCD symptoms, phobias, low self-esteem and trauma.
I am a specialist practitioner in CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), which offers a clear, structured way of understanding complex issues and combines the therapists’ knowledge and experience with the young person’s expertise of their own difficulties. I chose to specialise in CBT because my way of thinking aligns with the principles of this approach.
I am passionate about supporting young people to achieve their goals of bettering their mental health and believe a significant element of this is the therapeutic relationship.
A key part of my work with young people and families is the development of a formulation, which is a way of understanding the unhelpful cycles of thoughts, feelings and behaviours that someone can become stuck in. Not only does this help guide the best steps for treatment, but it is also integral in helping everyone understand the difficulties the young person is experiencing from their perspective.
I have gained my knowledge and skillset through my work as a Children’s Nurse and Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, having worked in CAMHS for several years. More recently, I completed my Professional Doctorate in Health and Social Care, and a Master’s in Child and Adolescent Mental Health. Prior to working in private practice, I also worked as a Lecturer in Child and Adolescent Mental Health at a local University. I am registered with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
I offer both in person and online sessions.
