Hello, I am Anita Barkey and I have worked within mental health since 1995. I am both a qualified Mental Health Nurse and a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. I have worked in both hospital settings and community environments. For the past 15 years, I have worked in community mental health, supporting both adults and young people. Twelve of those years have been within a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), where I continue to practise.
I have been privileged to work alongside children, adolescents, and their families who have experienced challenges with their emotional wellbeing and mental health. I understand and appreciate how difficult it can be to reach out for support. I have extensive experience working with young people who may struggle to engage with professionals and pride myself on being able to build trusting therapeutic relationships with them and their families.
In our sessions, I offer a safe and supportive environment to help you identify unhelpful patterns of behaviour and provide the space to work towards change. My main therapeutic modality is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT); however, I take a creative approach to meet individual needs. I pride myself on working collaboratively with people to help them understand themselves better, identify goals they wish to achieve, and find solutions to their difficulties. My constant mantra is: “I am supporting you to be your own therapist.”
I specialise in CBT approaches for specific mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, OCD, and PTSD. I have a keen interest in working with people who are neurodivergent and adapt my approach to meet their individual needs.
In addition to my clinical work, I am committed to ongoing professional development and regularly attend workshops and seminars to stay up to date with the latest research in mental health.
When I’m not in the therapy room, I enjoy going to the gym, taking long country walks with my dog, and having fun with my grown-up children — all of which help me maintain a balanced life.
I offer face-to-face consultations and therapy at my Northampton-based clinic and am also available for online sessions.
I am a qualified Mental Health Nurse, registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. I also hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy from the University of Reading and am registered with the BABCP.
I look forward to hearing from you to discuss your hopes and expectations of therapy.
