Hi, I’m Gemma. Following completion of my Psychology MSc and PGCert, I worked within forensic mental health services, supporting patients sectioned under the Mental Health Act. I moved into the substance misuse field in 2011 and have continued to support those affected by drug and alcohol use within the NHS. This led me to train as a counsellor and establish my private practice. I am also a trauma-informed trainer, delivering training to NHS staff.
To me, therapy is a space to feel safe, supported, and able to express and explore anything you may need to, without judgement. It is a place to bring all parts of yourself, to reflect, and to grow as a whole person. For this to be possible, I believe the therapeutic relationship is key; trust between therapist and client allows deeper layers of work to be entered into and worked through together.
I am an integrative, trauma-informed counsellor who draws on a range of modalities, including person-centred therapy, CBT, and Transactional Analysis. I also work creatively to support clients in ways that suit them and help them gain the most from therapy. In addition, I am a Sand Story Therapist, offering a creative and practical approach that can be particularly helpful when working with neurodiverse clients, trauma, addiction, and relational dynamics, amongst other areas.
