OCD Assessment

Clear, compassionate assessment that distinguishes obsessive-compulsive symptoms from autistic routines, anxiety patterns and ADHD‑related behaviours.

OCD Assessment

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) can present in many ways including intrusive thoughts, images or urges and repetitive behaviours or mental rituals done to reduce distress. At Serendipity Psychology Services Ltd, we take an evidence-based approach that looks at the whole picture: strengths, context, sensory profile, and overlaps with autism/ADHD and trauma. We avoid over‑pathologising and focus on a practical plan that helps you move forward.

Every assessment is seen by at least two trained professionals. We aim to complete within 8 weeks, depending on scheduling and third‑party information. School/college observation for children/young people is available as an add‑on where helpful.

Who this is for

  • Children, young people and adults experiencing intrusive thoughts/images/urges and repetitive behaviours or mental rituals
  • People unsure whether difficulties are OCD, autistic routines/sameness, perfectionism, anxiety, or ADHD‑related patterns
  • Referrers seeking a careful differential and clear recommendations for treatment and reasonable adjustments

What we consider (differential focus)

  • Nature of intrusions (ego‑dystonic vs. interest‑based, content themes)
  • Compulsions/rituals (overt and mental; avoidance; reassurance seeking)
  • Functional impact (time, distress, interference at school/work/home)
  • Distinguishing from autistic routines/sensory regulation and ADHD behaviours
  • Co‑occurring anxiety, depression, tics/Tourette’s, and trauma history

What’s included

  • Background review (relevant reports; with consent we may liaise with school/college/work)
  • Clinical interviews (with you and, where appropriate, a parent/carer or trusted other)
  • Validated measures (e.g., age‑appropriate OCD severity scales)
  • Formulation meeting integrating strengths, history and current needs
  • Second professional review and MDT consideration
  • Clear, accessible report with recommendations & resources
  • Feedback meeting to discuss findings and next steps

We use gold‑standard tools selected for your presentation—never a one‑size‑fits‑all battery.

FAQs

Is this a diagnosis of OCD?
Where criteria are met, we provide a diagnostic opinion and a clear plan for evidence‑based treatment.

How is this different from autistic routines or ADHD patterns?
We carefully differentiate anxiety‑driven rituals from regulatory routines/interests and executive‑function patterns, so recommendations fit real life.

Will the NHS accept your assessment?
We use evidence‑based, NICE‑aligned methods. Many NHS and education teams use our reports to inform care; acceptance is at each service/ICB’s discretion. We can provide a GP covering letter and liaise with NHS services when helpful.
