Cognitive & Learning Disability Assessment

Clear answers about learning profile, practical recommendations for education, care and work, and an affirming, strengths‑based approach.

Cognitive & Learning Disability Assessment

At Serendipity Psychology Services Ltd, we understand that thinking and learning differences can be missed or misunderstood. Our Cognitive & Learning Disability Assessment provides a rounded picture of strengths and support needs so that education, care and workplace plans are accurate, fair and helpful. We keep language clear and avoid over‑pathologising, while ensuring findings are robust and useful across settings.

Who this is for

  • Children (6+) and young people where learning differences are suspected (e.g., uneven progress, memory/processing concerns).
  • Adults seeking clarification of learning profile for work, training, benefits, or daily living support.
  • Schools, colleges and employers seeking an objective profile to guide reasonable adjustments.

What we look at

We assess intellectual functioning and cognitive processes that affect learning and daily life, for example:

  • Verbal and visual reasoning
  • Working memory and processing speed
  • Executive functions (planning, organising, flexibility)
  • Attention and learning efficiency

Where relevant, we also screen for autism, ADHD and sensory needs, and consider the impact of developmental trauma or anxiety on performance.

What’s included

  • Background review (e.g., school/college/work reports, prior assessments)
  • Standardised cognitive testing appropriate to age and need
  • Functional formulation that links scores to real‑world impact
  • Additional professional quality review (a second professional sense‑check)
  • Clear, accessible report with practical recommendations & resources
  • Feedback meeting for everyone to walk through results and next steps
  • Optional school/college observation when helpful (+£500)

We select gold‑standard measures that best fit the referral question rather than a one‑size‑fits‑all battery.

FAQs

Will this diagnose a learning disability?
Where criteria are met, our assessment can formally diagnose a learning disability and explain how it affects daily life.

Is this recognised by schools and services?
We use evidence‑based, NICE‑aligned methods. Many schools and services use our reports to inform support. Acceptance is at each service’s discretion; we can provide GP or referrer letters and liaise where helpful.

Do you consider autism/ADHD too?
Yes, we screen for neurodevelopmental differences when indicated and can recommend or combine pathways where appropriate.
