Hi, my name is Abi.
I am a fully qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, working with an integrative approach. This means I can draw on knowledge and skills from various counselling theories, allowing me to tailor sessions to best meet your needs, keeping you at the centre of the work.
I aim to create a relaxed, safe, and non-judgemental space for you to bring whatever feels significant for you during therapy. To meet you with empathy, curiosity, understanding, and a sense of feeling held throughout the process. I work with the awareness of how important it is to have a space where you can share your innermost thoughts, feelings, and processes with another human being—without fear of judgement or a sense of trying to be fixed or given advice that might not feel appropriate to you or your circumstances. Supporting you as an equal, to explore and navigate your way to your own answers and resolutions.
I have experience working with adults, children, and young people in a range of settings.
My work with children is child-centred. This means your child is able to choose whichever resources they would like to work with each session in order to fully express themselves and empower them within the therapeutic space.
The use of talking therapy alongside a choice of developmentally appropriate toys, games, books, sand tray, and various art materials helps to facilitate therapeutic play in a creative and nurturing environment. This way of working can help your child to explore their sense of self, better understand and communicate their emotions, explore relationships, practise effective problem-solving and boundary-setting, enhance empathy, and practise emotional regulation. I have a dedicated children’s therapy room specifically designed to enable this way of working.
I have experience working with adolescents, supporting them to navigate the stresses and struggles that come with secondary school and teenage life. Sessions with young people can often involve a more creative approach to help explore and identify what’s been troubling them, building trust along the way.
