Hello there, I am Sally Whalley.
I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist with over 18 years of experience working with a wide range of issues in various settings, including the NHS, academic institutions, charities, and private organisations.
I work with many of the life challenges we can face, including loss and grief, family and relationship breakdowns, anxiety and phobias, and depression. My priority is to listen closely to what you are experiencing and understand what you are feeling. I aim to build a safe relationship with you where you can feel able to offload, gain fresh insights, explore coping strategies, and ultimately find balance and peace of mind.
As an integrative counsellor, I tailor my skills and knowledge to your specific needs. The core of my work is building a non-judgemental relationship in which you feel free to express yourself authentically and openly explore challenging thoughts and feelings. I offer CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) to help you realise the correlation between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviour, TA (Transactional Analysis) to assist you with confusing and difficult relationships, and aspects of Schema Therapy to help you resolve more entrenched feelings and patterns from childhood and adolescence.
I offer independent sessions in my Crick-based counselling room, as well as online therapy. I am frequently described as calm and warm, and these qualities are reflected in the tranquil setting of my counselling room. I enjoy the opportunity to meet and get to know each person as an individual and pride myself on quickly developing good relationships. Some people see me for a few sessions and find that they can make sense of what is happening and move forward. Others stay in counselling for longer as they explore more complex events and emotions from both the past and present. However many sessions you have, I will work in the best way for you to achieve the most effective results you need.
I am an Accredited Member of the BACP. I regularly update my skills and knowledge and have undertaken various training courses. My qualifications include a CPCAB Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, a CPCAB Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, and a CPPD Diploma in Supervision. When I am not working as a counsellor, I supervise fellow counsellors in their work and also work as a Moderator for a national awarding body for counselling qualifications.
