Hello, I’m Dr. Emily Callan. I’m a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist, Chartered Clinical Psychologist, and Scientist with the British Psychological Society (BPS), as well as a Registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Social Care Professionals Council (HCPC). I have completed additional accredited training in adult clinical neuropsychology and am a member of the UK Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists (SCRN), representing the gold standard of clinical training in my field. I have also completed accredited training in Expert Witness work with the BPS and am a trained supervisor.
Currently, I hold posts in the NHS, independent practice, and as a clinical tutor on the adult clinical neuropsychology pathway at Bristol University. My background spans various specialist areas, including neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation services, as well as physical health services such as oncology, stroke, spinal trauma, and emergency medicine.
I specialise in assessing adults affected by neurological illness or injury, particularly in a medico-legal capacity, including personal injury and clinical negligence claims. I also support complex capacity assessments for the Court of Protection and am accredited by the British Board of Boxing Control to assess professional boxers when concerns arise following annual MRI scans. I provide structured neuropsychological assessments for adults and young people aged 18 and over, for both rehabilitation and litigation purposes.
Additionally, I am trained in a range of psychological therapies that inform my assessments and clinical recommendations. I have specialist training in diagnosing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and have completed additional training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and Trauma Risk Management (TRiM).
